Inspired by the numerous visual and mythological elements that constitute CHANEL’s aesthetic core, as well as Gabrielle Chanel’s background and influences, Virginie Viard created a collection that evokes the work of emblematic artist Jean Cocteau, one of Coco’s dearest friends. Set at Les Baux-de-Provence, a village in southern France, the show employed the famous Quarries of Light as a symbolic backdrop referencing the legacy of great artists such as Van Gogh and Cézanne.
The juxtaposition of black and white, along with Gabrielle Chanel’s love for symbols, mythical creatures and beasts played a key role in the new resort collection. Simplicity, a rock chic & punk attitude, and a modern interpretation of haute casual delivered a series of beautiful, effortless looks that reflect the current fashion vibe in the most elegant way possible. Fitted blazers, airy wide-leg trousers, funky mini-skirts, reinvented tweed jackets, co-ords with impressive prints, open-knit sweaters, fringed leather, cocktail dresses and caftans are only a few pieces of a massive and eclectic inspiration that playfully balances between classic and trendy. Moreover, a closer look at the clothes, the sleeveless tweed suit and the high-collared lace dress for example, can easily offer a glimpse into the artistic universe of Cocteau and Picasso!
It looks like Virginie Viard has started to create her own fashion school of thought, through a creative “manipulation” of CHANEL’s codes. As she put it “With Karl, I was more focused on listening to him. Now, it feels like I am discovering other facets of CHANEL”. Well, the clothes never lie.
Somewhere between the crazy times we live in and the brand’s very essence, Ermanno Scervino found a new way to express a fashion vision that represents the best version of tomorrow. The goal has always been the same, though: beauty. Finding and showcasing it is more than a purpose. It is a mission. For its new collection, Ermanno Scervino searched for beauty in femininity, blurred lines, mixed styles and detailed design.
Down jackets, crystal-encrusted lace T-shirt dresses, trousers with side bands, and neoprene skirts emit a sense of modernity and athletic stylishness. Different materials and unorthodox combinations give extra points to everyday fashion, showing the way to a world full of possibilities. Long coats, sheepskin coats, Bermuda shorts combined with blazers and thick knitwear take creativity to the next level. Elegance can be achieved through a variety of textures or tailoring methods and Ermanno Scervino knows exactly how to approach it and give it an organic feel.
Lace, leather, wool and even lurex embrace a color palette of white, pink, purple, black and brown, leading to a daring and alluring collection. Ermanno Scervino imagines a woman free of traditional limitations and conventions, able to invest in her own eclectic aesthetic.
